A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional and physical support to expectant mothers before, during, and after childbirth.

How is a doula different from a midwife?

What are the benefits of having a doula?

Studies have shown that having a doula present during labor can lead to shorter labor times, fewer interventions, and increased satisfaction with the birth experience.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What are the signs of labor?

Signs of labor include regular contractions, changes in the cervix, water breaking, bloody show, and increased vaginal discharge. These signs can indicate that labor is starting, but it’s important to note that every woman’s experience is different. It’s a good idea to talk with your healthcare provider to learn more about what to expect during labor and when to contact them.

Should I exercise during pregnancy?

Ideally, pregnant women should get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity every week. An aerobic activity is one in which you move large muscles of the body (like those in the legs and arms) in a rhythmic way. Moderate intensity means you are moving enough to raise your heart rate and start sweating. You still can talk normally, but you cannot sing. If you are healthy and your pregnancy is normal, it is safe to continue or start regular physical activity. Physical activity does not increase your risk of miscarriage, low birth weight, or early delivery.

How can I manage postpartum pain?

Managing postpartum pain can be done through pain medication, cold or heat therapy, gentle exercise, and getting adequate rest. Talk to your healthcare provider about your pain management options, and be sure to take any medication as directed. Applying a cold pack or warm compress to the affected area, gentle exercise, and getting plenty of rest can also help alleviate pain and promote healing.

How can I support my partner postpartum?

Supporting your partner during postpartum can be done in several ways. Some strategies include helping with household tasks, taking care of baby so mom can rest, care for older children,, offering emotional support, or by encouraging self care.
